Insert Menu

 

The insert menu is used to manually create a BoQ document or to add new components to an existing BoQ. There is an optional toolbar available which includes icons for all of the items listed on this menu.

 

The availability of the menu options depends upon the currently selected item. For example, as when creating a hand written BoQ, you cannot add items without having a page on which to write them and you cannot add a total without having inserted items you wish to add together.

  

 

Cut, Copy, Paste – depending upon the selected elements these functions can be used to copy or move information such as text between data entry cells. Alternatively a BoQ element can be copied or moved from one point in the document to another, in which case all information within that element is transferred with it.

 

Delete – Can be used as an alternative to the keyboard delete key to remove selected information or BoQ element(s).

 

Bill – A marker that indicates the start of a new Bill Section in the BoQ.

 

Page – A marker that indicates the start of a new BoQ page.

 

Works Order – The equivalent of a Bill marker but used in Term-Maintenance where work is grouped per Works Order rather than per Bill Section.

 

Text – A BoQ component with text properties but no measure/value attributes. Used as a heading within a BoQ page.

 

Item – A BoQ component that has text, value and measure properties. This relates to a measurable item within the BoQ document.

 

Sub-Item – An optional “child” item to a measurable item. The use of sub-items allows a complex item to be broken down into various components where, for example, they may be carried out by and therefore categorised as different trades or cost groups.


Item Quantities – An optional “child” item to a priced item. These un-priced Sub-Quantity items allow a main Bill Item to be split into an unlimited number of quantities, with the total quantity applied to the main Bill Item

 

Cost Record – An optional element where cost can be recorded for comparison with earned value.


Library Resources – Allows a new BoQ item (and headings) to be created from the resource table. Depending upon the structure of the resource table items this action produces a new resourced but un-quantified item.

 

Build Works Order – Used in Term Maintenance. Will enter a dialogue where the user can create a new works order item, measurable item(s) and total in a single operation.

 

Page Total – A marker for the collection point for measured item values. Usually a Page total will be the final element on a BoQ page.

 

Page Break – Will insert a Page Total and will also insert a new Page element.

 

Collection – A collection of all preceding Page Totals from the current point to the start of the document or to the previous Collection point.

 

Main Summary – A collection of all preceding Collections from the current point to the start of the document or to the previous Summary point.

 

Resource Centre… – Launches the Resource Centre Dialogue allow you to see all resources within your project and what they are assigned to, if you have a measured item selected it will launch in assignment mode allowing you to add new resources to an item.
